Dean Shaffer serves as an instructional designer at Penn State Lehigh Valley. He also works with the instructional designers at Penn State World Campus.
Dean primarily supports faculty at the Lehigh Valley campus with the integration of technology into teaching and learning. He provides assistance with ANGEL and web conferencing technologies, with the design and development of hybrid and online courses, with the use of classroom technology, and with the technical and pedagogical aspects of technology-mediated education.
Prior to joining Penn State, Dean served as director of distance education and instructional technology at Delaware Valley College in Doylestown, PA; director of instructional technology at DeSales University in Center Valley, PA; educational technology analyst, biomedical photo/graphics specialist, and certified biomedical equipment technician at Lehigh Valley Health Network; and was instructor of biomedical equipment technology at Lehigh Carbon Community College. He holds a master's degree in Educational Technology from Lehigh University and a bachelor's degree in Photographic Arts and Sciences/Professional Photography from the Rochester Institute of Technology. He also holds degrees in Biomedical Equipment Technology and Electronics Technology.
