Originally from Orange County, California, Sonya earned her bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of California, Irvine. She and her family moved to State College in 2002 when her husband, Stephen, was hired at Penn State as a social sciences librarian. They are raising their three children here.
Sonya started her career in online education at Penn State in 2008, doing technical editing, proofreading, and course production work before moving into web accessibility work in 2012. She is a member of the User Experience Team and does consulting, testing, research, training, and documentation to empower instructional designers, course authors, and web developers to make content and interactive elements that work well for all students. She has presented on accessibility and universal design for learning (UDL) to audiences at Penn State and nationally, and has authored blog posts for the World Campus.
