Sonya Woods

Accessibility Consultant

Originally from Orange County, California, Sonya moved with her family to State College in 2002 when her husband, Stephen, was hired at Penn State as a social sciences librarian. They are raising their three children here. Sonya earned her bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of California, Irvine, and is currently working towards a master of professional studies in Organization Development and Change through the Penn State College of Education and World Campus.

Sonya started her career in online education at Penn State in 2008, doing technical editing, proofreading, and course production work before moving into web accessibility work in 2012. She is a member of the user experience team and does consulting, testing, research, training, and documentation to empower instructional designers, course authors, and web developers to make content and interactive elements that work well for all students. She has presented to audiences nationally and at the University on accessibility and universal design for learning (UDL), and she has authored blog posts for the World Campus.
